Quite close to the acceptance that the closest we will ever get back to the EU is some alignment here and there. It’s frustrating, but there we go. Starmer has shot the project below the waterline through his red lines and pessimism inducing policy platform to do with it.

The best that can be hoped for is remaining in the ECHR and some more alignment for Trade on some levels, it should ideally be the Conservatives coming to their senses through pointing this all out under a common ground position.

The danger is that Kemi Badenoch is too scared to push any of it too hard for fear of a Conservative split off to Reform UK under Farage from the Jenrick wing of the party if a Conservative pro Europeanism was miraculously ever to emerge.

The Conservatives need to start talking about Europe again in terms of trade again otherwise they will be taken even less seriously than they are now, they should focus on the Blue Wall fight again the Lib dems and common ground positions for reductions in trade red tape.

They can’t ignore or be in denial of the issue, tbh they have more chance of regaining power/popularity from being brave enough to show humility on the issue rather than the current positioning of not wanting to mention it.
